4 Essential Checks Before You Submit Your TR to PR Application
With Canada's TR to PR Pathway 2026 now active and full program details expected in April 2026, the window to prepare is right now. When the application portal opens, spots will fill fast — just as they did in 2021 when the last TR to PR program was exhausted on Day 1.
The difference between a successful application and a rejected one often comes down to document readiness. Missing or inconsistent paperwork is the #1 reason files are returned or refused. Use this checklist to ensure you are fully prepared before you hit submit.
CHECK 1 Certified Translations of All Non-English / Non-French Documents
IRCC requires that every document not in English or French be accompanied by a certified translation prepared by a qualified translator. This is non-negotiable — untranslated documents will cause your application to be returned incomplete.
Documents that commonly require translation include:
▸ Birth Certificate — Important: In many Indian birth certificates, the child’s name is missing or left blank. This requires a Letter of Explanation (LOE). See the note below.
▸ Marriage Certificate / Marriage Registration
▸ Divorce Decree or Separation Agreement
▸ Academic Degrees, Diplomas and Transcripts
▸ Foreign Police Clearance Certificates
▸ Passport biographical pages (if in a non-English/French language)
▸ Affidavits, Court Orders or Legal Declarations
▸ Employment Letters and Pay Stubs (if issued in another language)
▸ Medical Records (if applicable)
⚠️ Watch Out: Missing Child’s Name on Birth Certificate (LOE Required)
This is one of the most common document issues we see with Indian applicants. Many older Indian birth certificates were issued without the child’s name — listing only “Baby Boy” or “Baby Girl,” or leaving the name field entirely blank. IRCC will not accept a birth certificate where the applicant’s name cannot be verified.
The Solution: A Letter of Explanation (LOE) must be prepared, explaining the discrepancy and confirming your identity. This letter must be notarized by a Canadian Notary Public or Commissioner of Oaths to be accepted. Document Genie Ltd. prepares and notarizes LOEs quickly at both our Edmonton and Surrey offices.
Documents commonly used to support an LOE: school records, ration card, Aadhaar card, affidavits from parents, or any government-issued document linking your name to the birth certificate.
💡 Genie Tip: Don't let translations slow you down.
At Document Genie Ltd., we provide certified translations with a 1-Hour Turnaround. Whether it’s a birth certificate in Hindi, a marriage certificate in Punjabi, or a degree in Tagalog — we get it done fast, accurately, and in a format accepted by IRCC. We also prepare and notarize Letters of Explanation (LOE) for missing names on birth certificates. Call us or book online before the portal opens.
CHECK 2 Canadian Police Clearance Certificate (PCC)
A Canadian Police Clearance Certificate — also called a Criminal Record Check — is a mandatory document for permanent residency applications. It confirms that you have no criminal record in Canada and demonstrates you are admissible to become a permanent resident.
What you need to know:
▸ You must obtain a PCC from the RCMP (Royal Canadian Mounted Police) — local police checks are generally not accepted by IRCC for PR purposes.
▸ The certificate must be recent — typically issued within the last 3 to 6 months of your application date.
▸ Processing can take several weeks if requested directly, so do not wait until the portal opens.
▸ If you have lived in multiple Canadian provinces, ensure your record check covers all of Canada.
💡 Genie Tip: Start your Canadian PCC today.
Document Genie Ltd. assists clients with obtaining their Canadian Police Clearance Certificate through the proper channels. We guide you through the fingerprinting and submission process to make sure you get a valid, IRCC-ready PCC without the confusion or delays of doing it alone.
CHECK 3 Police Clearance Certificate from Your Country of Origin — We Cover 10+ Countries
In addition to the Canadian PCC, IRCC requires a Police Clearance Certificate from every country where you have lived for 6 months or more since the age of 18. For most TR applicants, this means obtaining a PCC from your home country — and this is where many applications get delayed.
Key points for country-of-origin PCCs:
▸ India: Issued by the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Indian Embassy/Consulate — process varies depending on whether you are in India or abroad.
▸ Spain, Portugal & UK: Each country has a separate national police registry process; some require in-person visits or local representation.
▸ USA (FBI): Requires fingerprinting and submission to the FBI — the Identity History Summary Check is the standard document accepted by IRCC. Allow several weeks for processing.
▸ Jamaica, South Africa & Namibia: Processes differ significantly — South Africa and Namibia both require fingerprint submissions; Jamaica requires a police station visit or proxy. Allow 4–8 weeks.
▸ Singapore & Malaysia: Online and consulate-based applications are available; apostille or High Commission authentication may be required.
▸ Don’t see your country listed? We assist with many more — contact us and we will guide you through the exact process for your country of origin.
▸ The certificate must be apostilled or authenticated if required by IRCC.
▸ If your country-of-origin PCC is in a language other than English or French, it must also be certified translated (see Check 1).
▸ If you have lived in a third country (e.g., UAE, UK, USA) for 6+ months, you may need a PCC from that country as well.
💡 Genie Tip: We Obtain PCCs from 10+ Countries — Including Yours.

CHECK 4 Name Spelling Consistency Across All Documents
This is one of the most commonly overlooked — and most dangerous — issues in an immigration application. IRCC officers review your documents with precision. If your name is spelled differently across your passport, birth certificate, degree, marriage certificate, or work permit, it raises a red flag for identity inconsistency and can lead to delays, requests for additional evidence, or outright refusal.
Common spelling variation examples:
▸ Harpreet vs. Harprit — Sukhdeep vs. Sukhdip — Mohammed vs. Muhammad vs. Mohamed
▸ Singh vs. Sing — Kumar vs. Kummar — Sharma vs. Sarma
▸ Middle names present in some documents but absent in others
▸ Name order reversed (First-Last vs. Last-First in different countries' documents)
▸ Transliteration differences between regional languages and English script
The Solution: Multiple Name Affidavit
If your name appears in more than one spelling across your documents, you must obtain a Multiple Name Affidavit (also called an Affidavit of Name Variation or Name Discrepancy Affidavit). This is a sworn legal declaration that confirms all name variants refer to the same person — you.
✔ What the Affidavit Must Include:
A list of all name variants as they appear across your documents • A sworn declaration that all variants refer to you • Must be signed before a Canadian Notary Public or Commissioner of Oaths • Must be attested / notarized to be accepted by IRCC.
💡 Genie Tip: Name inconsistencies? We fix that.

Frequently Asked Questions
When will the TR to PR 2026 portal open?
Full program details are expected in April 2026. The portal is anticipated to open shortly after. Given how quickly the 2021 program filled up on Day 1, we strongly recommend having all your documents ready before the portal goes live.
What happens if I submit my application with untranslated documents?
IRCC will return your application as incomplete. This means lost time and potentially losing your spot. All documents not in English or French must be accompanied by a certified translation prepared by a qualified translator.
Do I need both a Canadian PCC and a PCC from my home country?
Yes. IRCC requires a Canadian PCC (from the RCMP) AND a Police Clearance Certificate from every country where you lived for 6 months or more since age 18. For most TR applicants, this means at minimum two PCCs.
How far in advance should I start collecting my documents?
Start now. Country-of-origin PCCs can take 4–8 weeks or more, and Canadian PCCs can also take several weeks if requested directly. Waiting until the portal opens is a risk you cannot afford.
Can Document Genie help with all 4 of these checks?
Yes — all of them. We provide certified translations (1-hour turnaround), Canadian PCC assistance, international PCC services for 10+ countries, LOE preparation, and Multiple Name Affidavits. Everything you need, all in one place.
What if I have name discrepancies and also need translations?
Very common — and we handle both. We’ll review all your documents together and ensure your translation and affidavit are cross-referenced correctly so your file is consistent end-to-end.
